The people behind Layer Lines

Dana WhitfieldFounding editorDana Whitfield started Layer Lines in 2023 to keep her own notes straight after upgrading from a bedslinger that fought her every week to a proper CoreXY machine. She does mechanical drafting for a small manufacturing shop by day and runs three printers in her garage by night, including one older bedslinger she keeps around just to check whether advice still holds on older hardware. She buys every printer she reviews at retail price with her own money so a free sample never colors the result.Felix OduyaFilament and settings writerFelix Oduya spends his weekdays running quality checks on plastic pellets at a recycling plant, which is why he can tell you exactly why one spool of PLA prints thirty degrees different from the brand sitting next to it on the shelf. He has run the same calibration cube on eleven printers to separate what the filament is responsible for from what the machine is doing. When he's not testing spools he dials in print settings until a part comes out right on the first try, then writes down exactly what he changed to get there.Corinne BaptisteFeatures and history writerCorinne Baptiste taught high school shop class for nineteen years before retiring and picking up a 3D printer to keep her hands busy. She tracks down the origin stories behind the machines and tools hobbyists take for granted, from a 2005 university project in Bath, England to the $12 deburring tool sitting in half the toolboxes in the hobby. She also writes the longer personal pieces on the site, usually the ones that start with something going wrong.
